The Huntington Beach High School softball team is alone atop the Sunset Surf League after a 5-2 win over Marina on Thursday.
A four-run rally in the top of the third provided all the runs the Oilers would need, but they did have to hold off a rally by the Vikings in the bottom of the seventh in which the home team scored twice.
The Oilers are now 8-3 overall and 2-0 in league. Marina is 7-6 and 1-1.
HBHS was led by Jaylene Duarte who went 3-for-4 at the plate, Zoe Prystajko with two hits, a home run and three RBIs, and pitcher Tea Gutierrez. She worked seven innings, yielding just four hits and two runs. She struck out four batters and walked none.
