The tally of confirmed new coronavirus cases in Orange County tumbled into double figures for the first time in weeks in Thursday’s report.
According to the county health care agency, the latest total of new cases – compiled on Wednesday, but reported today – is 87, down from the previous day’s tally of 129.
Deaths declined from five to four and hospitalization fell from 102 to 89. The count of patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units ticked down from 17 to 16.
Since the pandemic began, Orange County has had 546,967 cases, of which 536,781 are considered recovered. Deaths now total 6,884.
Nationally, new cases – over a 14-day period – are down by 12 percent and deaths by 44 percent, according to The New York Times. In California, new cases have declined by 35 percent and deaths by 50 percent, according to the calculations of Los Angeles Times.
