An investigation into the death of a man – a suspect in an outburst of violence – in a Santa Ana hospital – is underway.
The man – not yet identified by authorities – was arrested by Santa Ana police after a fracas at the La Quinta Inn, which is located northwest of Grand Avenue and Dyer Road.
At 11:47 p.m. on Friday, police were summoned in response to reports of a man breaking windows and assaulting security guards.
Arriving officers encountered a “hostile and combative male with visible injuries to his hands and arms,” according to the SAPD. Attempts to de-escalate the situation and arrest the suspect turned into a violent confrontation. The officers “used force to place him into custody” for several felony charges.
Paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority treated him at the scene and took him to the Orange County Global Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 8:55 a.m. Saturday.
The inquiry will be conducted by the SAPD, as well as the Orange County District Attorney’s office and the City of Santa Ana’s city attorney’s office.
Anyone with information into this incident is asked to contact the SAPD Homicide Section at (714) 245-8309.
