Cavs catch Lobos in GGL race

SANTIAGO beat Los Amigos to create a tie for first in the Garden Grove League baseball race (Shutterstock).

Santiago High’s baseball team knotted up the Garden Grove League race with a 14-2 win over Los Amigos High Tuesday on the Cavalier field. Both teams are 7-3; Santiago is 9-9 overall and LA is 16-3 overall.

The GGL title may be settled when the two teams meet again on Friday at the Lobo diamond.

Ocean View High School’s basketball team tightened its grip on the Golden West League lead with a 17-2 win over Garden Grove High at the Seahawks field Tuesday afternoon.

OV is 5-0 in league and 13-6 overall. The Argonauts are 1-4 and 9-10.

In other GWL play, Westminster (1-4, 1-14) fell 8-2 to Katella.

In softball action, La Quinta defeated Loara 12-7 in Grove League play. Neveah Gomez pitched four strong innings for the Aztecs (3-2, 11-3). She helped her cause with a home run, three runs batted in and two stolen bases. Ella Magga scored three times and stole three bases.

Empire League play saw Pacifica (3-0, 18-3) win its seventh game in a row, defeating Kennedy 6-2.

Huntington Beach remained atop the Surf League with a 6-3 win over Marina. The Oilers are 4-0 in league and 11-7 overall. The Vikings are 1-3 and 9-11.
