HUNTINGTON BEACH and Garden Grove are among the safest cities in the United States, according to a new survey (Shutterstock).

Garden Grove and Huntington Beach rank among the 35 safest cities in the United States, according to a study by Smartasset.com.

Cities are evaluated on – based on a rate per 100,000 residents – violent crime, property crime, vehicular mortality, drug poisoning mortality and the percentage of population engaged in “excessive drinking.”

Huntington Beach is tied for 26th place with Simi Valley and Garden Grove is 35th. The top-rated city is Frisco, Texas, followed by McKinney, Texas. The top five is filled out by three California cities: Santa Clarita, Sunnyvale and Glendale.

Orange County cities ranked in the study are Irvine (18th), Orange (22nd) as well as Huntington Beach and Garden Grove.
