Pelosi made visit to Ukraine

HOUSE SPEAKER Nancy Pelosi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (UA Media Office).

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi made an unannounced visit to the Ukrainian capitol city of Kyiv on Sunday.

She met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other officials and promised the United States would stand by his nation in its efforts to repel an invasion by Russia.

“Your fight is a fight for everyone and so our commitment is to be there for you until the fight is done,” she said, according to United Press International.

She was with delegation of members of Congress – all Democrats – and promised Zelenskyy that more aid is coming “in the fight against Russia’s oppression.”

In other developments:

  • Russia claims it has hit an airfield in Ukraine near the city of Odessa with missiles in an effort to destroy weapons sent by the U.S and Western allies.
  • Finland will “almost certainly” apply for membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, a Swedish government official said on Sunday.

According to Reuters.com, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has pushed the neutral nations of Finland – and possibly Sweden – closer to NATO, the strengthening of which was the reason for the invasion.

For members of NATO, “an attack on one is an attack on all.”

Weather: A little of this, little of that

What’s the difference between mostly sunny and partly cloudy? We’re not sure, but that’s what the forecast for the West Orange County area calls for over the next few days. Monday should be “mostly sunny” with a daytime high of 71 (overnight low of 58). Tuesday is expected to be “partly cloudy” with a high of 71 and overnight low of 55. Wednesday should be a little more direct: sunny and 79 (57) and the same on Thursday.
