Youth held in fatal shooting

A 17-YEAR-OLD Anaheim youth has been arrested on a charge of fatally shooting a man Sunday night at the Cinco de Mayo event in La Palma Park in Anaheim (Shutterstock).

A 17-year-old Anaheim youth has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a man at the annual Cinco de Mayo Festival in Anaheim on Sunday.

According to the APD, the incident occurred just after 10 p.m. when officers responded to gunshots on the north side of La Palma Park (northeast of West Palma Avenue and Harbor Boulevard). They found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. A group of juvenile suspects was detained and a handgun recovered at the scene.

Upon further investigation, police determined that a fight had erupted between two groups of teens, and the Anaheim youth allegedly fired a handgun. The shot struck a bystander who was not involved in the altercation.

The suspect has been booked at Orange County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of murder.
