U.S. presses China on Ukraine

The United States is pressing China to rethink its support of Russia in its invasion of Ukraine.

According to Reuters, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has spoken to China’s top diplomat about the issue.

While Russia and China reportedly have a “no limits” partnership, China has not provided Russia with any military equipment or ignored U.S. sanctions on Moscow.

China is the sole major power which has not condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine, which began in February. Presently, the fighting is raging in the eastern regions of that nation.

Sri Lanka leaders will resign

The president and prime minister of the island nation of Sri Lanka will resign in the face of widespread protests over the country’s economic troubles.

According to The Associated Press, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe announced he would step down as soon as a new government is installed, and President Gotaboya Rajapaksa will leave on Wednesday.

Shortages of food, fuel and other basics have led to unrest and violence.

Sports: Angels keep sliding; Dodgers vs. Cubs

Once again, a good pitching performance was not enough for the Los Angeles Angels as they lost 1-0 to the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards on Saturday.

Patrick Sandoval (3-4) worked 6.1 innings, yielding five hits and one earned run. He struck out 10  batters and walked two.

The Angels (38-48) collected just five hits, none by Mike Trout or Shohei Ohtani. The Halos have now lost three straight and seven of their last eight games.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are hosting the Chicago Cubs. Check back for results.

Weather: Partly cloudy for a while

Partly cloudy conditions will prevail over the West Orange County area for the next few days. The forecast calls for a Sunday daytime high of 83 with an overnight low of 64. Monday will see a daytime high of 80 (63). Tuesday will be slightly cooler at 79 (63).
