National Night Out on Aug. 2

WESTMINSTER POLICE DEPARTMENT, along with those of Garden Grove and Huntington Beach, will hold National Night Out events on Aug. 2 (WPD photo),

National Night Out is scheduled by law enforcement agencies across the United States on Tuesday, Aug. 2.

The Westminster Police Department will have its event at the Target department store parking lot at 16422 Beach Blvd. from 5-8 p.m. There will be food, games and activities, agency vehicles and more.

The Huntington Beach Police Department ’s version will be held from 5-7 p.m. at Central Park (Edwards Street and Central Park Drive).  It’s a family-friendly event with information booths, police demonstrations, food trucks and more.

In Garden Grove, the GGPD event will be from 5-8 p.m. in front of the Public Safety building on Acacia Parkway east of Euclid Street.

It’s a free event with live demonstrations, raffles prizes and more. There will some street closures in the Civic Center area from 5-8 p.m.

GG city council meeting cancelled

The Garden Grove City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 26 has been cancelled. The next council meeting will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 9.

New VP at Marina High School

MIA WHITE

Mia White is the new vice principal of supervision at Marina High School in Huntington Beach.

White is a graduate of Edison High School, also a part of the Huntington Beach Union High School District. 

She has a bachelor’s degree in social service from UC Irvine and a master’s degree in education from National University.

Before coming to MHS, she was an English teacher for 15 years at Ocean View High in Huntington Beach, where she also coached cross country and track.

College student honors revealed

College and universities across the nation are conferring honors on students from the West Orange County area. They include:

Endicott College (Beverly, Massachusetts)

  • Danica Glover of Garden Grove has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2022 semester.

Public Safety Committee meets July 27

The Stanton Public Safety Committee will meet on Wednesday, July 27 at 6 p.m. in Conference Room B in City Hall, 7800 Katella Ave.

Topics on the agenda include:

  • a discussion and update on prostitution within the city
  • introduction of the city’s new chief of police, Capt. Charles Walters of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department
  • announcement of the new city manager, Hannah Shin-Heydorn.

Adult ed signups start Aug. 2

Registration for adult education classes with the Garden Grove Unified School District opens on Tuesday, Aug. 2.

You can sign up online @ae.ggusd.us for in-person or online distance learning courses for the fall 2022 semester, which begins Aug. 22 and concludes on Jan. 13.
