Firefighter burned in blaze

FIREFIGHTERS battle a blaze Saturday afternoon on Magnolia Street in Garden Grove (OCFA photo).

A firefighter was hospitalized with burns while Orange County Fire Authority crews battled a blaze at a structure in Garden Grove Saturday afternoon.

According to OCFA, emergency calls were made at 12:58 p.m. reporting that a person might be trapped in a burning building in the 12000 block of Magnolia Street (south of Chapman Avenue).

Responding units were able to knock the fire down in 21 minutes. Firefighters worked inside with hose lines while others used chain saws to ventilate the roof.

There were no victims in the structure, which was reportedly operated by a nearby church as a transitional living center.

The injured firefighter was taken by OCFA firefighter paramedics to an area hospital with a neck burn and is expected to be released today.

Assistance was provided by Anaheim Fire & Rescue and the Garden Grove Police Department.
