Rancho runs past Rebels 16-0

Rancho Alamitos ran its 2022 football record to 3-0 with a 16-0 win over Savanna Thursday night at Bolsa Stadium.

The Vaqueros and Rebels each were scoreless until Rancho’s final offensive play of the first half when quarterback Chris Hurley connected with Frank Candelario for a 45-yard pass-run play for a touchdown and a 6-0 halftime lead.

Rancho added a field goal and a touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.

The Vaqueros will go fo their fourth win on Friday, Sept. 16 when they visit Godinez Fundamental in Santa Ana.

Garden Grove League play will start on Friday, Sept. 30 as the green-and-gold host Los Amigos.

In other action on Thursday, Edison thumped Palos Verdes 35-7 in a game at Sheue Field on the Huntington Beach High campus to improve its record to 4-0.

Huntington Beach (now 2-1) lost a heart-breaker 15-14 to El Toro on a last minute field goal by the Chargers. The Oilers scored their two TDs on a 44-yard scoring pass from Daunte Bell to A.J. Vandermade and a 10-yard return of a fumble by Nathan Tauanuu.

Westminster (3-0) remained unbeaten with a 48-0 victory over Anaheim. Western bested Esperanza 39-7 as Anthony Luna passed for four touchdowns as the Pioneers improved to 3-1.
