Two volunteer soldiers in the Russian Army opened fire on other troopers during a target practice shooting session on Saturday and killed 11. Fifteen others were wounded.
According to the Associated Press, the incident took place in western Russia. It was termed a “terrorist attack” by the Russian government.
At the same time, missile strikes continue as Russia attempts to counter military advances by Ukrainian forces by targeting infrastructure such as electricity, water and natural gas facilities.
Additionally, the attacks are seen as retaliation for the attack – likely carried out by Ukrainian special forces – that partly destroyed a key bridge linking Crimea to Russia.
Musk changes mind on Starlink. Maybe
Elon Musk, considered the world’s richest man, appeared to change his mind Saturday on his earlier vow to cut off his Starlink internet service to Ukraine.
According to United Press International, Musk tweeted, “The hell with it … even though Starlink is losing money and other companies are getting billions of taxpayer (dollars), we’ll just keep funding Ukraine govt. for free.”
Starlink terminals have helped maintain internet service to Ukraine despite the Russian attacks.
Sports: Dodgers eliminated, USC falls
The San Diego Padres scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 Saturday night, and knocked the Blue Crew out of the playoffs, winning three straight after losing the opener of the National League Division Series.
For the first six and a half innings, it looked like the Dodgers were destined to win the game, tie the series and go back to Chavez Ravine on Sunday for the decider.
But a 3-0 lead quickly turned into a 5-3 defeat, and the 2022 season ended on a rainy night in San Diego.
The USC football team suffered its first defeat of 2022 on Saturday when it lost 43-42 to Utah, the deciding points coming on a two-point conversion in the final minute.
Caleb Williams passed for five touchdowns and 381 yards, but the Trojans (6-1, 4-1) allowed 424 passing yards and were flagged for 12 penalties worth 93 yards.
The 7th-ranked Trojans led 28-14 at one point while the Utes didn’t lead into the final. deciding conversion on a quarterback keeper.
In NFL action, the Los Angeles Rams (2-3) will face the Carolina Panthers (1-4) at SoFi Stadium in a 1:05 p.m. game. The Los Angeles Chargers (3-2) will host the Denver Broncos (2-3) on Monday at 5:15 p.m.

The forecast from the National Weather Service calls for cloudy weather through on Sunday, followed by mostly cloudy weather at night right through Wednesday. Sunday’s predicted daytime high is 73 with an overnight low of 60. Monday will warm up to 77 (62) and Tuesday to 81 (66) and mostly sunny during the day.
