Johnson drops his bid for PM

Boris Johnson, the former British prime minister who lost his job to another prime minister who lost her job has withdrawn his bid to win back the office.

The Associated Press is reporting that Johnson, booted from office in July, tried to rally support to return as leader of the Conservative Party. Under Britain’s parliamentary system, the leader of the top party in the House of Commons becomes the prime minister.

Who’s next? Former Treasury leader Rishi Sunak is considered the favorite to replace Liz Truss, who resigned last week. The vote could come on Monday.

Baker win ssame-sex take controversy

A Bakersfield bakery owner who refused to make wedding cakes for a same-sex couple won a legal battle this week. A Kern County Superior Court judge ruled that her First Amendment rights of freedom of expression took precedence over the state’s Civil Rights Act.

The same-sex couple has vowed to appeal the ruling.

Sports: Chargers fall to Seahawks

 

The Seattle Seahawks built a 17-0 first quarter lead and held on to defeat the Los Angeles Chargers 37-23 Sunday at SoFi Stadium. Both teams are now 4-3.

AP Top 25: Georgia remains atop the AP Top 25 College Football Poll released Sunday. The Bulldogs (7-0) are followed by Ohio State (7-0) in second, Tennessee (7-0) in third, Michigan (7-0) in fourth and Clemson (8-0) in fifth.

UCLA (6-1) fell from 10th to 12th. USC (6-1) is 10th, up from 12th.

Baseball playoffs: The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the San Diego Padres 4-3 Sunday in the National League Championship Series and will head into the World Series. Bryce Harper’s two-run home run was the key hit.

Autumnal weather returns to the West Orange County area this week in the West Orange County area. According to the National Weather Service, Monday will be sunny with a high near 78 with winds that could gust to 35 miles an hour. The overnight low will be 55.

For Tuesday, there will be more sun and a daytime high of 72 (56), Wednesday will be similar at 72 (55) but with early morning fog.
