This may be the time for songs about a “winter wonderland,” but a major snowstorm in western and northern New York has residents singing the blues.
The level of snowfall is being called among the heaviest ever recorded in the area. The storm has forced Sunday’s NFL game between the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions to move to Detroit.
There have been two deaths associated with the storm and National Guard troops have been deployed to help with snow removal.

Another college campus shooting
A shooting on the campus at the University of New Mexico campus early Saturday morning has led to the cancellation of a basketball game between New Mexico and rival New Mexico State.
According to USA Today, a shooting incident between two men – ages 19 and 21 – inflicted gunshot wounds on each other. Dead was Mike Peake, 21, a New Mexico State basketball player.
The incident comes after three shooting deaths earlier this week at the University of Virginia, where three football players were killed.
Sports: USC outlasts UCLA, 48-45
In a game in which each team rallied repeatedly, USC hung on to defeat UCLA 48-45 on Saturday at the Rose Bowl, a victory which put the Trojans into the Pac-12 championship game and kept alive hopes for the College Football Playoffs.
Leading UCLA was Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who passed for 309 yards and four TDs, but also had three interceptions. On the ground he rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns, but lost a fumble.
USC is now 10-1 overall and 8-1 in conference play. UCLA is 8-3 and 5-3.
Georgia, the nation’s top-ranked college football team, survived a late rally by Kentucky and won 16-6 on Saturday. The Bulldogs (11-0 overall) finished a second consecutive unbeaten Southeast Conference season (8-0).
In other college games earlier today, TCU (ranked fourth) edged Baylor 29-28 on a last second field goal. The Horned Frogs are 11-0 overall and 8-0 in the Big 12 Conference.

The West Orange County area is due for more sunny autumn days. according to the National Weather Service. The forecast for Sunday is for sunny skies with a daytime high of 77, and an overnight low of 47. Monday will be mostly sunny with a daytime high of 74 with a low of 49. Tuesday will continue a mild cooling trend to 73 (48).
