30 are dead in missile attack

At least 30 people were killed when a Russian missile strike hit a apartment building in the city of Dnipro in Ukraine on Saturday.

According to the Associated Press, the building housed 1,700 people before the attack. As rescuers searched the rubble, the body count could go higher. At least 43 people were reported missing.

Air strikes and missile attacks also hit the capital city of Kyiv, as a two-week lull in the violence ended. 

The Ukrainian defense forces said that the Russians fired 33 cruise missiles on Saturday, and that 21 of them were shot down.

Biden honors Martin Luther King Jr.

President Joe Biden appeared at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta on Sunday and vowed to continue to press to defend votings rights, battle economic injustice and protect American democracy, speaking before the primarily Black congregation.

Monday is the national holiday honoring the civil rights leader.

According to The New York Times, he said, “I will not yield. I will not flinch,” adding that “Progress is never easy. But redeeming the soul of the country is absolutely essential.”

Sports: A wild playoff weekend

It was a nightmare for fans of the Los Angeles Chargers, but the NFL’s opening playoff weekend was a kick from an entertainment standpoint.

On Saturday, the Bolts blew a 27-0 lead over the Jacksonville Jaguars and lost 31-30 to finish the season 10-8. Also on Saturday, the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 41-23.

Sunday’s games were all nail-biters. The Buffalo Bills edged the Miami Dolphins 34-31 and the New York Giants outlasted the Minnesota Vikings, 31-24.

The last game had the bigger stunner of them all. The Cincinnati Bengals bested the Baltimore Ravens on lineman Sam Hubbard’s 98-yard fumble return for a touchdown and a 24-17 final score.

Weather: Some sun, some showers

A little of this, a little of that regarding weather for the West Orange County area and all of it chilly. The forecast for Monday is for some morning light rain with a daytime high of 59 and an overnight  low of 45.

Tuesday is expected to be sunny with a high of 59 and a low of 42. Expect partly cloudy conditions on Wednesday and morning showers on Thursday.
