The federal government will end the national emergency on coronavirus this May 11.
According to the Associated Press, President Joe Biden notified Congress on Monday of the change.
The effect of the virus will be classified as endemic, which is less pervasive than a pandemic.
At the same time, Republicans in the House of Representatives are seeking an immediate end to the emergency as well as planning an investigation into the federal government’s reaction to the disease.
Two more suspensions in Memphis
A pair of Memphis police officers have been suspended for their role in the death of Tyre Nichols, bringing to 10 the number of city employees taken off duty, including three from the fire department.
Five of them have been arrested and face second degree murder charges in the death of Nichols, who was beaten and kicked by officers and died several days later. Nichols and his alleged assailants are Black.
Also in the news … Cindy Williams, who co-starred in the popular “American Graffiti” and the “Laverne & Shirley” TV show, has died at the age of 75.
Sports: Lakers fall to Nets, 121-104
A short-handed Los Angeles Laker team fell behind early and finished with a 121-104 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on the road Monday night.
LeBron James was sidelined with a sore left foot and Anthony Davis was on the bench for a planned day of rest. With their two top scorers on the court, the team was led by Thomas Bryant, who had 18 points and nine rebounds. Russell Westbrook had 17 points along with 10 assists and eight rebounds.
The Lakers (23-28) will play in the Big Apple again on Tuesday against the New York Knicks.
Weather: Sunny, then cloudy
The West Orange County area can expect a window of sunny weather for a couple of days before the clouds roll back in. The forecast for Tuesday is for sunny skies with a daytime high of 65 and an overnight low of 40. Wednesday will be a bit warmer with sun and a high of 67 and a low of 42. Mostly cloudy skies will appear on Thursday with a high of 66 (46).
