Artemis II moon crew is named

THE CREW of the Artemis II moon mission is NASA astronauts Christina Hammock Koch, Reid Wiseman (seated), Victor Glover, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen (NASA).

The crew for the Artemis II spacecraft planned to visit the moon in 2024 has been named by NASA, and it’s not the all-white, all-male, all-American lineup that made the lunar trips in the late 60s and 70s.

The lineup is Reid Wiseman, Christina Koch, Jeremey Hanson and Victor Glover. Hanson is Canadian and Glover is African American.

Instead of landing on the moon, the crew of Artemis II will go on a 10-day mission that swings them around that globe as preparation for an eventual mission to Mars.

The last trip to the moon was made by NASA in 1972. The next manned landing on the moon – Artemis III – will likely be in 2026.

Former president Donald Trump made his journey from Mar-A-Lago in Florida on Monday to a courthouse in New York City where on Tuesday he will be booked and arraigned on a variety of charges related to him allegedly arranging for “hush” money to be paid to a pornographic actress.

According to the Associated Press, he took a ride to a Florida airport where he flew to New York in his Boeing 757. While he was cheered along the route to the airport, there was no one to greet him as his plane landed in New York City.

After his arraignment, Trump will fly back to Mar-A-Lago where he will hold a press conference on Tuesday evening.

Also in the news … Abby Zwerner, the first grade teacher shot by a 6-year-old pupil in Virginia in Jan. 6, has filed a lawsuit for $40 million in damages against her school district for allegedly ignoring warnings about the youth’s violent “mood” and possession of a gun.

Weather: And now, back to sunshine

Monday was murky in the morning and clear in the afternoon. Tuesday, however, should be sunny all day for the West Orange County area with a daytime high of 66 and an overnight low of 45. Wednesday is forecast to be “mostly sunny” but warmer at 70 (48). Thursday is expected to be full sunny with a high of 76 (42).
