Council honors citizen leaders

Honors for citizens and preparations for the coming Fourth of July topped Tuesday’s meeting of the Garden Grove City Council.

In the “Community Spotlight” the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival Association board of directors – led by President Andrea Perez – received recognition from the council for the 2023 Memorial Day weekend event.

Also, recognized were Arlene Martin and Howard Whittaker for being named the 2023 Strawberry Ball Queen  and King and Senior Volunteer Woman and Man of the Year.

The council also heard a report about plans of the Garden Grove Police Department and the Orange County Fire Authority to deal with the dangers posed by illegal fireworks and the illegal use of “safe and sane” fireworks.

Later in the meeting, the council adopted a resolution approving the sale agreement for a one-story office building at 11390-11400 Stanford Ave., also in the Civic Center.

Also approved at Tuesday’s meeting were:

  • the awarding of a contract to WGJ Enterprises for the construction of the Bicycle Corridor Improvement Project for improved bicycle signing and striping upgrades for $1.272 million;
  • the awarding of a contract to RJ Noble Company for the construction of the Arterial Street Rehabilitation Project 2023 for $6.985 million.

The next meeting of the council is scheduled for Tuesday, July 11.
