The driver of a car that took police on a chase through the streets of Huntington Beach on Independence Day did not find liberty when it was all over.
According to the HBPD, the incident began around 4 p.m. when officers sought to make a traffic stop for an automobile with a vehicle code violation. The driver didn’t stop and a pursuit began.
The suspect – who was not identified – abandoned the car in the area Banning Avenue and Bushard Street and sought to escape on foot, running through several backyards before finding an unlocked house, where he barricaded himself in.
“Extensive negotiations” followed and with the assistance of a SWAT unit, a drone and K-9 dog Knight, the suspect eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.
Upon searching the vehicle, a “significant” amount of narcotics was found, say police, leading to arrest on various charges, including evading and possession for sale of a controlled substance.
