It took some extra-inning magic, but the Los Angeles Angels continued to roll on Tuesday night, defeating the Detroit Tigers 7-6.

Mickey Moniak doubled to right in the top of the 10th inning to drive in what proved to be the winning run. With the victory, the Angels have won seven of eight games and improved their record to 52-49, good for third place in the American League West and four games back in the AL wild card race.

The Angels had built a 6-2 lead, but the Tigers rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game up.

Griffin Canning had a good start, working five innings and yielding seven hits and two earned runs. He struck out eight batters and walked none. Carlos Estevez (4-1) got the win in relief and improved his ERA to 1.98.

Overall the Angels got 12 hits with Andrew Velazquez going 3-for-4 and scoring twice.

They’ll take on the Tigers again on Wednesday with Patrick Sandoval making the start.

Dodgers had 10th-inning win, too

Trailing by four runs in the ninth inning against the Toronto BlueJays Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied with four runs in the ninth and won 8-7 in 10 innings at home.

James Outman’s ground rule double off the top of the center field wall brought home Chris Taylor with the winning run. The victory gave the Blue Crew a 58-42 and kept them in first place in the National League West by four games.

Freddie Freeman homered in the first and J.D. Martinez went deep in the eighth. Outman had the best night, going 3-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored. Max Muncy and Taylor each had two hits.

The Dodgers host the Jays again on Wednesday, then have Thursday off before starting a series on Friday hosting the Reds.
