UKRAINIAN troops are probing for a place to make a breakthrough into Russian lines (Shutterstock).

Both sides are in agreement that Ukraine’s big push into Russian-held areas of the country is underway.

The Associated Press is reporting that Ukrainian forces are forging ahead in a 600-mile front. Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged that “hostilities have intensified significantly” but claimed that the attackers have been repulsed with heavy casualties. There’s no independent confirmation of that.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his troops had retaken control of a village.

Western observers say that Ukraine is conducting probing actions all along the front, searching for a place to find or create a gap, and  then push the 10th Corps forward in an effort to make a major breakthrough and push south to the coast.

New charges in Trump documents case

New accusations have been leveled against former president Donald Trump for allegedly telling the Mar-A-Lago property manager to delete portions of security camera footage.

The New York Times is reporting that Carlos De Olivera has been added to the federal indictment on mishandling classified documents after Trump had left office.

Trump is accused of violating the Espionage Act; new charges against him will include accusations of being involved in trying to “alter, destroy, mutilate or conceal evidence.”

Eagles founder dies at 77

RANDY MEISNER

One of the founding members of The Eagles country-rock band that flourished in the 70s and 80s, Randy Meisner, has died at the age of 77.

According to the Associated Press, he wrote several major hit songs for the group: “Take It Easy,” “The Best of my Love” and “Take it To the Limit.”

The cause of death was given as complications from chronic obstructic pulmonary disease.

As the French say, “the more things change, the more they remain the same.”  Daytime highs in our West Orange County area remain in the high 80s well into Monday and skies remain partly cloudy. Friday’s daytime high will be 86 with an overnight low of 68. Saturday will be slightly warmer at 88.
