Late Halo Rally Falls Short
The Los Angeles Angels lost their fifth straight game on Saturday, falling 3-2 to the Seattle Mariners in Anaheim.
With the loss, the Halos are 56-56, back at .500 and in fourth place in the American League West. They’ll finish the series with the M’s on Sunday.
The Angels had a chance to stage a successful comeback late. Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth. Brandon Drury hit a ground rule double down the left-field line to drive in C.J Cron and put runners on second and third with two out.
Mickey Moniak was intentionally walked to load the bases, but Hunter Renfroe struck out swinging.
Tyler Anderson (5-3) had a good outing, lasting five innings and giving up just two hits and two earned runs. He struck out six batters and walked three.
Padres score 7 in the 8th to win
With a seven-run outburst in the eighth inning, the San Diego Padres defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-3 Saturday night at Chavez Ravine.
The Dodgers are 63-46 and still in first in the National League West,.Despite the loss, second place San Francisco Giants didn’t gain any ground, losing 2-1 to the Oakland A’s. They still trail by three games.
Chief victim of the Padres onslaught was Caleb Ferguson, who – in one third of an inning – gave up five hits and four runs. He also walked a man.
For the Dodgers, Will Smith hit his 40th home run of the season. Mookie Betts had two hits for the home team and scored a run.
With each team with one win apiece, they’ll meet again on Sunday at Petco Park at 4:10 p.m.
