It’s time to bring back Mike

MIKE SCIOSCIA might deserve another term in the Angels’ dugout (Flickr/Keith Allison photo).

When there’s a fire, you break the glass and grab that extinguisher. When the Joker is running wild in Gotham City, you light up the Bat-Signal.

When your baseball team starts staggering into losing streaks and sliding down the standings, who you gonna call?

No, it’s not the Ghost Busters. My vote is …

Bring Back Mike Scioscia.

As all true Angels’ fans know, Mike was the all-time most successful Halo manager. He had more wins (1,650), the best winning percentage (.536) and the most playoff appearances (seven).

While his last two seasons (2017 and 2018) were inglorious – 80-82 each year – those were nevertheless the best seasons the Angels have had in the last seven years.

“Sosh” is only 64. He’s tanned, rested and ready. And he’s got some recent experience managing the U.S Olympic baseball team to the silver medal in the 2020 Summer Olympics (held in 2021).

Modesty prevents me from mentioning that he’s one of a long line of legendary Italian-American baseball managers like Yogi Berra, Tommy Lasorda, Joe Torre and Tony LaRussa.

No offense to Phil Nevin. He’s doing his best. But ….

So let’s stop wringing our hands and start boiling the water for the pasta. When you’ve lost your way, you get the last guy who was able to find it.

Jim Tortolano once had lunch with Tommy Lasorda.
