Two celebrations get approval

A REQUEST for longer hours and louder noise on New Year’s Eve at the Garden Amphitheater were approved by the Garden Grove City Council (Shutterstock).

A pair of celebrations to be observed locally were quickly approved by the Garden Grove City Council on Tuesday night.

On a 6-0 vote – with Councilmember John O’Neill (District 2) absent – the council approved requests for a two-day observance of the Buddha’s birthday and an extended New Year’s Eve concert.

Giac An Buddhist Monastery in Garden Grove is planning to host a festival at Garden Grove Park on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5, 2024 .

LFA (Large Format Assembly), which operates the Garden Amphitheater – popularly known as “Garden Amp” – on Main Street, won approval for extended hours and exemption from sound limits from 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

The festival will have an expected attendance of 3,000 and all direct expenses to the city will be reimbursed.

LFA stages popular music concerts and other entertainment events at the city-owned facility.

Siddhartha Gautama, usually referred to as the Buddha, is the central figure of Buddhism, one of the world’s great faiths and predominant among people of Southeast Asia, including Vietnam.
It is one of the three major Asian religions, the other two being Confucianism and Taoism. 

The next meeting of the city council is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 12.
