As Congress debates a request by President Joe Biden for up to $24 billion in aid to Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr will visit the White House, the U.S. Capitol and the United Nations next week.
That’s what the Associated Press is reporting, citing anonymous Biden administration officials. Zelensky visited the Washington in December 2022 and addressed Congress.
Ukrainian forces are in the middle of a major counter-offensive to recover land conquered by Russian forces during their invasion, and has expended considerable military supplies provided by the U.S. and other Western nations.
The aid package requested by Biden would include military and humanitarian assistance.
Hunter Biden indicted an arms charge
Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, was indicted Thursday on three charges, all of which are connected to alleged unlawful possession of a firearm.
According to United Press International, Hunter Biden is a accused of making “false statements” to acquire a firearm in 2018.
He is banned for possessing the gun because he was “an unlawful user of and addicted to any stimulant, narcotic, drug or any other controlled substance.’
The charges were brought by Special Counsel David Weiss.
Auto workers are set to strike
Members of the United Automobile Workers are set to strike at midnight against the “Big Three” of American auto manufacturers.
The New York Times reports that the union is at an impasse on pay, pensions and the workweek with General Motors, Ford and Stellanris (Chrysler).
Such a work stoppage could mean shutdowns initially at one plant for each automaker then expanding if a new contract agreement isn’t reached.
