Hamas militants attack Israel

A surprise assault by Hamas militants into towns in Israel early Saturday morning lead Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to declare that his nation was “at war” with the attackers.

According to the Associated Press, Hamas fired “thousands of rockets” into Israel while “dozens” of fighters advanced on the ground

In response, the Israeli government has stopped supplying electricity fuel and other supplies unto the Gaza Strip, where Hamas has a strong presence. Retaliatory air strikes hit killed at least 232 people and and wounded 1,700 or more according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The Israeli government is claiming the Hamas has captured civilians and military personnel  as hostages.

Kershaw, Dodgers slammed by D-Backs

The Arizona Diamondbacks scored six runs in the first inning off Clayton Kershaw and went on to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-2 Saturday in the first game of the National League Division Series.

Arizona led 11-0 in the eighth before the Blue Crew could score twice in the bottom of the inning at Dodger Stadium on Will Smith’s triple.

Game Two is set for Monday with Bobby Miller getting the start for the home team.

Trojans get 43-41 overtime win

After falling behind 17-0 early in the game, the USC Trojan football team (6-0) rallied to defeat Arizona (3-3) by 43-41 in three overtimes at the Coliseum.

USC had a chance to win it in regulation time but a field goal attempt fizzled. The Trojans finally won it in the third OT when Caleb Williams scored on a two-point attempt, and Arizona’s try was stopped for a loss.

Caleb Williams ran for three touchdowns and passed for another for the cardinal and gold.

Bruins upset the Cougars

Capitalizing on four turnovers, the UCLA football team upset 13th-ranked Washington State 25-17 on Saturday in the Rose Bowl.

For the the Bruins, Dante Moore completed 22-of -42 passes for 290 yards and one touchdown. Carson Steele rushed for 142 yards. Keegan Jones ran for two scores.

UCLA, now 4-1 overall and 1-1 in Pac-12 play, benefited from two fumbles lost and two interceptions. The Cougars led 10-9 at halftime, but the Bruins outscored the visitors 16-7 in the second half.

Weather: Clouds, fog, sun

The cooling trend for our West Orange County continues for the next few days. Sunday will be partly cloudy with a daytime high of 85 and an overnight low of 62. Monday will have morning fog followed by afternoon son with a high of 78 (61). Tuesday will see the return of partly cloudy skies and a drop to 75 (61).
