Grove man held for Ferris climb

A Garden Grove man is facing multiple criminal charges after he climbed the Ferris Wheel at the Santa Monica Pier.

According to the SMPD, the incident took place on Monday at around 2:35 p.m. Juan Gonzalez, 37, is accused of climbing the structure and saying he had a bomb.

He is charged with making criminal threats, making a false bomb report, false imprisonment and resisting arrest. Upon arrival, officers found that Gonzales had scaled about two-thirds of the way up in the steel supports. The wheel stopped with 10 people still on the wheel and the pier evacuated.

Gonzalez climbed down after about a hour and was taken into custody by officers. He didn’t have an explosive devices on him.
