BIKE LANES are planned for five major streets in Garden Grove.

As part of the City of Garden Grove’s plans to improve active transportation and implement community-identified goals, bike lanes will be added along five major streets as part of the Bicycle Corridor Improvement Project. 

The BCIP is a federal program that provides funding for projects that make bicycling and walking easier and safer in Orange County. The Garden Grove project originated from the City’s Re:Imagine Garden Grove initiative and Medal of Honor Bike and Pedestrian Trail to create more walkable and bike-friendly areas in the city. Streets under construction and tentative project dates are:

• West Street, from Garden Grove Boulevard to Orangewood Avenue, now through Friday, October 27;
• Brookhurst Street, from Trask Avenue to Katella Avenue, now through Wednesday, November 1;
• Gilbert Street, from Deodora Drive/Westminster Boulevard to Katella Avenue, now through Thursday, November 9;
• Lampson Avenue, from Dale Street to Haster Street, from Friday, October 27 through Tuesday, November 21; and
• Chapman Avenue, from Valley View Street to Beach Boulevard, recently completed.

Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, for West Street and Gilbert Street. For Chapman Avenue, Brookhurst Street, and Lampson Avenue, work hours are 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Residents and business owners along the construction areas have been notified in advance through flyers delivered door-to-door.

Residents are asked to follow temporary “No Parking” signs and expect heightened traffic and noise due to construction activities. Access to residences, businesses, and schools will be maintained at all times.

Construction work includes road-rebalancing and adding stripping buffers, bike loops, wayfinding signage, and video detection camera systems.

The BCIP is funded by the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program that supports projects that meet Federal Clean Air Act requirements.
