Los Amigos earned a tie for the Garden Grove League football championship on Thursday night by defeating Santiago 24-8. The Lobos (6-4 overall and 4-1 in league) share the title with Rancho Alamitos (7-3, 4-1), which defeated Santiago on Thursday.
It’s the second consecutive year the two teams tied for the crown; it’s the sixth straight GGL title for the Vaqueros.
The championship drama isn’t over yet. La Quinta (6-3, 3-1) will take on Bolsa Grande (2-2 in league) on Friday. If the Aztecs win, they’ll be in a tri-championship with Los Amigos and Rancho; if they lose, that’s creates a tie with the Matadors for third place, offering Bolsa a chance for a CIF-SS playoff berth.
The CIF-SS playoff brackets and first-round matchups will be announced this weekend.
