Four-hour pauses announced

President Joe Biden on Thursday was successful convincing Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu to grant the intervals, and has asked for multi-day cease-fires to help negotiate the release of hostages taken my Hamas.

The pauses would be announced at least three hours before they begun. Also, Israel has agreed to open a second corridor for the evacuation of civilians.

Joe Manchin won’t seek re-election

West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, a Democrat, announced on Thursday that he would not seek re-election in 2024, potentially complicating his party’s hopes of maintaining control of the upper house of Congress.

Currently, there are 48 Democrats and three independents who caucus with them and 49 Republicans. West Virginia is solidly “red” making Manchin’s announcement likely that his seat will be won by a member of the GOP.

Manchin is also considering a third-party run for the White House in 2024.

Sports: Kings host Penguins

The Los Angeles Kings lost 4-3 in overtime to the Pittsburgh Penguins (7-5) Thursday night.

The Kings are now 8-2-3, good for 13 points and third place in the NHL Pacific Division.

Weather: Sun by the weekend

Our West Orange County area can look forward to some sunshine followed by some rain in the next week or two. The forecast for Friday is for partly cloudy skies and a daytime high of 76 with a low of 48. But Saturday will be sunny with a high of 82 (51). Mostly sunny conditions will be in place on Sunday with the temperature at 80 (53). However, rain and showers will come next Wednesday through Friday with daytime highs at 70 to 65.
