The subject of the sale of cannabis is on the agendas next week for both the Garden Grove and Stanton city councils.

While marijuana-related products are legal for sale and possession across California, state law gives cities the right to prohibit the sales of such items in businesses within city limits.

However, the recently-enacted Medicinal Patients’ Right of Access  Act bars cities from prohibiting “retail delivery of medicinal cannabis to patients or caregivers in the city” from licensed facilities within the city.

The council will hold a public hearing to consider two proposed ordinances to bring Garden Grove’s municipal code in compliance with the new state laws.

Also on Tuesday night, the council will hear an update about the Civic Center Revitalization Project.

In Stanton, there’s an agenda item about “conducting a review and update of the city’s current cannabis ordinance.” No specifics were available.

Both councils meet on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Garden Grove convenes at 11331 Stanford Ave., while Stanton will be at 7800 Katella Ave.
