Three of six of our West Orange County teams won their CIF-SS quarterfinal games on Friday and will advance to the semifinal round next week.
In Division 5 action, Western High, champions of the Orange League, defeated Apple Valley 49-17 and will face Orange Vista. The Pioneers are (10-1) and the Coyotes are 9-3.
The Oilers (6-6) squeezed by Ontario Christian by 36-33 on Friday and advanced to the semifinal round against Simi Valley (6-5).
Orange High (7-4) concluded its 2023 season with a 22-13 loss to Rio Hondo Prep in a Division 11 contest.
In what has to be one of the lowest-scoring playoff games in CIF-SS history, Westminster (9-3) defeated Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary by 3-0. The Lions’ semifinal foe will be Riverside Poly (6-6).
In Division 13, Los Amigos (7-5) hosted Walnut and lost 31-17 to the Mustangs.
Ocean View’s run in the Division 14 playoffs came to an end on Friday, losing 28-21 to Bell Gardens. The Seahawks finished the year 6-6.
