Three West Orange County high school football teams reached the CIF-SS semifinals on Friday, and all three lost, but not without strong efforts.
In Division 5, Western (now 11-2) saw its 11-game winning streak snapped in a 63-45 shootout against Orange Vista of Perris. The Pioneers won the Orange League title this year.
In Division 6, Huntington Beach (6-7) suffered a heart-breaking last second loss to Simi Valley on the road. The Oilers trailed early 17-8, but rallied to 29-25 with less than a minute to play when the Pioneers (8-5) pushed the winning touchdown across from the 1-yard line for a 32-29 win.
HBHS finished in third place in the Sunset League.
Brady Edmunds was the star for the Oilers, passing for three touchdowns. Jaxon Brown ran for a fourth score.
Westminster (9-4) lost its Division 11 game to Polytechnic High of Riverside on Friday by 20-7. The lone Lion score was a 9-yard run by Ezekiel Cedillo. Jaden Tan kicked the extra point.
The Lions were the second place team in the Pac-4 League.
