A 12-year-old pupil at a middle school in Westminster was arrested Monday morning for carrying a “kitchen-type” knife to school.
Commander Kevin MacCormick of the WPD reported that staff members at Warner Middle School, 14171 Newland St., had detained the student and police responded to the campus around 11 a.m. There were no incidents involving the use of the knife.
“We are grateful school staff intervened and were able to locate the knife before anything serious occurred at the hands of the student,” said Chief Darin Lenyi. “The safety and welfare of our students and teachers is our utmost priority.”
The student was released to his parents and the school will be moving forward with further disciplinary action. The Orange County District Attorney’s office will investigate for possible criminal charges.
