The Los Amigos High boys’ basketball team surged to the top of the Garden Grove League race on Friday night with a 63-46 win over Loara High. The win gave the Lobos a 3-0 record in league and 13-6 overall.
For Los Amigos, Mekhi Belote scored 23 points. Matt Basallo scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers.
Loara fell to 2-1 and 13-7.
Santiago, which started league play with two wins, hosted La Quinta. A final score was not reported.
In the Orange League, Western kept pace in first place thanks to a 58-44 win over Anaheim.
The Pioneers are 3-0 in league and 9-12 overall. Also in first is Savanna (3-0, 10-8) which swamped Century 86-28.
Golden West League play saw Ocean View defeat Garden Grove 66-58. The Seahawks are tied for fourth at 1-2 (12-9 overall), while the Argonauts (0-3, 8-13) are in sixth.
Pacifica lost a key Empire League game, falling 41-38 to Tustin. The Mariners are 14-7 overall but 1-2 in league action.
In girls’ play, Loara defeated Los Amigos 52-31 to extend its lead in the Garden Grove League race. The Saxons are 3-0 in league and 11-8 overall. They are the only GGL team with a winning record.
Pacifica defeated Tustin 45-38 on Friday to improve its record to 16-4 overall and 1-2 in Empire League play, tied for fourth. On Thursday, Orangewood Academy of Garden Grove (12-5) defeated Capistrano Valley Christian 69-27 and set up Saturday’s clash with Fairmont Prep of Anaheim. Both teams are 1-0 in San Joaquin League; the Patriots are 17-4.
