Donald Trump scored a major and expected victory in the Iowa Republican presidential caucus on Monday.
Incomplete results with about 40 percent of the vote counted showed the former president with 16 delegates to the GOP convention with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley with four delegates each, but later DeSantis appeared to edge ahead into second place about 2 percentage points.
Vivek Ramaswamy announced he would end his campaign due to a poor showing, and endorsed Trump.
The next step on the campaign trail is the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
Houthi missile hits U.S.-owned ship
An American-owned ship – the Gibraltar Eagle – was hit by a missile fired by Houthi rebels from Yemen, but there were “no injuries or significant damage” to the transport.
The craft was reportedly carrying steel products in the Gulf of Aden when it was struck, and turned back. That attack followed another missile aimed at a U.S. destroyer, but it was intercepted and shot down by an American jet fighter.
“Succession” succeeds at Emmys
Emmy smiled the most Monday night on “Succession” and “The Bear,” dominating both the drama series and comedy series categories.
“Succession” won for outstanding drama series, outstanding drama actor, outstanding drama actress and outstanding supporting actor.

Bills and Bucs advance with wins
The Buffalo Bills defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-17 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Philadelphia Eagles 32-9 to advance to the NFL Divisional round next week.
Tampa Bay will visit Detroit (Sunday) and Kansas City will visit Buffalo (Sunday). Other matchups will be Green Bay at San Francisco (Saturday) and Houston at Baltimore (Saturday).
Kings and Ducks were hot on ice
Local pro ice hockey teams had a hot night on Monday. The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Florida Panthers 5-4 in overtime on the road. Alex Killorn scored the winning goal in OT. With the win, the Ducks are 15-27-1 (31 points) worth seventh place in the NHL Pacific Division.
The Los Angeles Kings were at home when they defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2. They’re now 21-11-8 for 50 points and third in the Pacific Division. Trevor More scored twice in the win, helping to snap an eight-game winless streak.
The Los Angeles Lakers took on the Thunder in Oklahoma. The final score was not available at our deadline.
Weather: Lots of clouds now
Fans of cloudy weather will have plenty to smile about this coming week in our West Orange County area. The skies will be either cloudy or partly cloudy through Friday, and the weekend is expected to be bring light rain or showers. Daytime highs will range from 67 to 70 and back down the 63. Overnight lows will range from 51 to 53 to 54.
