Whatever happened to the Marie Callender’s restaurant on Brookhurst Street in Garden Grove that burned down in 2022? It was demolished and a proposal for the construction of a 30-unit townhouse project on the site goes before the city council on Tuesday.
A public hearing will be held on the proposed residential project to be built at 13252 Brookhurst Street and 10052 Central Ave. on a 1.22 acre site.
The developer, Mejia Homes, plans to build the project with 22 two-bedroom units and eight four-bedroom units. Each unit would have a two-car garage (standard or tandem) and a balcony on the second floor and an open patio in the front.
Proposed is about 3,290 square feet of common recreation area with a barbecue area, wood structure shades and tables, seating, outdoor furniture, community gardens and a community dog bag station.
Also, funding for improvements in the Medal of Honor Bike and Pedestrian Trail is before the council. The city has been awarded a grant of $441,000 by CalTrans which will go toward improving the path. Proposed amenities and enhancements include trash receptacles, litter abatement signage, trail furniture, bike racks, landscaping/mulch and outdoor fitness equipment.
The trail is along the former Pacific Electric right-of-way from Nelson Street near downtown, northwest to Brookhurst Street near the uptown shopping district. Planning is now underway at the county level to extend the path further south to Santa Ana.
The council will meet in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave. at 6:30 p.m.
