Election Day is over … mostly. I say mostly because ballots mailed on Tuesday but not yet arrived and/or tabulated are still out there in Vox Populi Limbo.
As of this writing on Thursday afternoon, there were still 273,494 ballots left to process, which is nothing to sneeze at, even in a county with over 3.1 million people.
But … wouldn’t it be ironic if … The losing side – presumingly the Protect HB group that opposed the three controversial proposed Huntington Beach charter amendments (two of which passed) – claimed “massive election fraud” and that the election was stolen from them and started filing lawsuits all over the place …
Wouldn’t it be ironic if … the same politicians who opposed “any tax increase ever” started taking credit for the rescue of Westminster’s finances by voters who approved the half-cent boost and subsequent revival when Westminster Mall gets redone and revitalized …
Wouldn’t it be ironic if … the same people who complained that the ducks and other birds messed up the grass and walkways at Garden Grove’s soon-to-be uprooted civic center pond discover that planned water feature in the new park at the other end of the civic center attracted a new (or the same old) flock of avians with the same habits.
Wouldn’t it be ironic if … if winners in the statewide election in which the voter turnout might be as low as 29 percent had the nerve to say “the people have spoken.”?
