An 18-year-old Huntington Beach bicyclist is dead after a collision with an automobile.

According to the HBPD, police were dispatched at around 6:15 a.m. Thursday to Talbert Avenue, west of Bell Circle, regarding an accident involving the cyclist and a 2016 Kia Sorento.

Arriving officers found the bicyclist in the roadway. He was taken to a local hospital but was later pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Kia, a 26-year-old Fullerton man, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Impairment did not seem to be a factor with the driver.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the Kia was traveling west on Talbert Avenue in the second lane. The bicyclist was also westbound, moving in the Talbert bike lane when the collision took place.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it is asked to contact HBPD Investigator C. Houlston at (714) 536-5670.
