Sports: $100,000 fine for a gesture
Minnesota Timberwolves star Rudy Gobert has been fined $100,000 for making a gesture at officials on Friday implying that gambling is affecting officiating in the NBA.
Gobert drew his sixth foul in the closing moments of a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He then made a gesture – fingertips rubbing together – that drew a technical foul that allowed the Cavs to tie the game up and go on to an overtime win.
“I’ll bite the bullet again,” said Gobert. “I’ll be the bad guy again that speaks what I think is the truth … I know the betting and all that is becoming bigger and bigger – but it shouldn’t feel that way.”
His salary is $41 million a year.
