A DUI checkpoint is scheduled by the Huntington Beach Police Department for Thursday, March 21 from 6 p.m., to Friday, March 22 at 2 a.m. at an undisclosed location in the city.
At the checkpoint, officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, including marijuana.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties as well as a suspended drivers’ license.
GGUSD Employees of Month named
Roben Alcaron, an elementary school teacher at Eisenhower Elementary School, and Brent Duron, a warehouse supervisor, have been named employees of the month for March for the Garden Grove Unified School District.
Alcaron was honored as top certificated employee, while Duran as top classified. They were honored at the March 5 meeting of in the GGUSD Board of Education.
GG woman pleads guilty in tire-slashing
A plea of guilty was made Friday by a 45-year-old Garden Grove woman who had slashed the tires of 11 automobiles in January.
According to authorities, Mary Cruz Berumen was sentenced to time served for the incident that took place on Jan. 2.
She had been involved in an earlier incident in November 2023 in which she accepted a plea deal from an incident in which she shot a BB gun at two men.
