A motion to dismiss charges against former president Donald Trump of mishandling classified documents was denied by a federal judge on Thursday.

First District Judge Aileen Cannon rejected claims by Trump’s lawyers that the law under which he was being prosecuted with too vague and should be rendered unconstitutional.

The U.S. Justice Department is alleging that Trump broke the law on 32 occasions by taking secret documents from the White House after his term was over.

Cannon, who was appointed by Trump, commented that it would be “extraordinary” for a judge to strike down the entire Espionage Act.
