Former president Donald Trump suffered another legal setback on Thursday, as a federal judge turned down his request to pause the civil lawsuits against him regarding his role in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol while the criminal case on this issue continues.
The ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Amit Mehta in Washington comes at a time when Trump’s criminal trial on allegedly falsifying documents started the week.
In that trial, 12 jurors have been picked and the process of selecting alternates is underway.
Trump continued on Thursday to complain about what he called a “very unfair” trial. “Everybody’s outraged by it.” he said.”You know the whole world’s watching this New York scam.”
U.S. vetoes Palestine as UN “full member”
A resolution to recognize Palestine as a “full member state” in the United Nations was vetoed by the United States in the UN Security Council.
Twelve nations voted in favor, while Switzerland and Great Britain abstained. Currently, Palestine has only “nonmenber observer status.”
Full membership would have mostly a symbolic benefit. Much of the land now claimed as Palestine is occupied or has been annexed by Israel and the Palestinian Authority is not recognized by Israel as a government body.
Sports: Angels fall to Tampa Bay, 2-1
Two runs in the bottom of the first inning was all the Tampa Bay Rays needed to defeat the Los Angeles Angels on Monday at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
A sacrifice fly and a run-scoring triple give the home team a 2-0 edge, and the Halos were able only to score one run on sacrifice fly in the sixth.
With the loss, the Angels are 9-10 and in second place in the American League West. The team will travel to Cincinnati to open a series with the Reds on Friday.
The Los Angeles Kings are hosting the Chicago Black Hawks and the Anaheim Ducks are visiting the Vegas Golden Knights.
