Against the Orange Lutheran Lancers Friday night in the CIF-SS Division 1 championship softball game, the Pacifica Mariners could only manage three hits.
But with Brynne Nally in the circle for the M’s that was enough as the West Garden Grove team won 3-0 to earn its second consecutive Division 1 title. It was their ninth CIF-SS title and their third in Division 1
She pitched seven innings, yielding just two hits. She struck out 11 batters and walked only two.
The game at Deanne Manning Stadium in Irvine was scoreless until Pacifica pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fourth and one more in the bottom of the sixth.
Runs were driven in by Kayli Counts, Annika Sogsti and Kaniya Bragg, who homered and scored twice.
With the victory, the Mariner are 27-2 and the Lancers are 21-4. The outcome is bound to shake up the national rankings. Orange Lutheran was rated sixth and Pacifica – which was rated number one earlier in the season – is 11th. In California, the teams were rated one-two.
