The Israeli strike that hit a tent camp in the city of Rafah in Gaza is now being called “a tragic mistake” by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
At least 45 people, possibly mostly civilians, perished in the attack and the fire that followed. Initially the Israeli military claimed on Sunday it had staged a “precise air strike” killing two Hamas militants.
“Despite our utmost efforts not to harm innocent civilians, last night there was a tragic mistake,” said Netanyahu. He promised an investigation.
Palestinian rescue officials allege that of the 45, at least 12 women and eight children were killed.

After graduating from UCLA he led the Portland Trailblazers to the NBA title in his rookie year, but persistent foot injuries kept him from being as dominant in the pros as in college. He later played fo the San Diego/Los Angeles Clippers and the Boston Celtics.
