Angels win it, 8-7, in the 11th

Nolan Schanuel’s sacrifice fly in the 11th inning scored Adam Frazier with the winning run as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Seattle Mariners 8-7 on Sunday in Anaheim.

The win allowed the Halos to take the series from the M’s and squared their record to 5-5, good for second place in the American League West, one game behind the first place Houston Astros.

The game was tied at 6-all after nine innings and each team tallied once in the 10th, setting up Schanuel’s game-winning at-bat.

After struggling at the plate for several days, the home team banged out 11 hits on Sunday. Frazier was 3-for-4 with a run batted in and one scored. Schanuel was 2-for-5 and two runs batted in.

Five Angel pitchers took the mound, all of them for two or two-plus innings. All of the yielded at least one run, except for the last, Shaun Anderson, who got the win while yielding one run and one hit. He struck out one Mariner and walked another.

The Halos will be back on the road on Monday to start a three-game series in Atlanta against the Braves (5-5).

Dodgers over Nats: UCLA wins hoops crown

The Los Angeles Dodgers swept the Washington Nationals with their 8-6 win on Sunday. Shohei Ohtani hit a home run and a go-ahead sacrifice fly as the Blue Crew overcame a five-run deficit.

They’re 7-2 and leading the National League West by three games over the second place Arizona Diamondbacks.On Monday, they’ll travel to Toronto (4-5) to start a series with the Blue Jays.

The UCLA Bruins women’s basketball team jumped out to a first quarter 11-point lead and went on to defeat the University of South Carolina 79-51 to win the NCAA Division 1 title in Phoenix.
Three of them – Gabriela Jaquez, Kiki Rice and Laureen Betts were named to the all-tournament team; Betts was named MVP.
