E-bikers get ‘driving’ lessons from the police department

E-BIKER arrested by police officers (GGPD photo).

It’s not unusual for some young people to feel they are immortal, or that laws are simply “suggestions.” But reality eventually catches up with them.

Reality in the form of the Garden Grove Police Department, which earlier this week confronted some electronic motorcycles doing “wheelies” and speeding along Westminster Avenue near Bolsa Grande High School, where graduation ceremonies were being held.

According to the GGPD, a number of riders – all of them juveniles – were detained, arrested, cited and their bikes impounded. It was also discovered that one of the vehicles had been stolen.

Police point out some details about operating electronic bicycles or motorcycles.

  • they may require a driver’s license
  • they may require insurance
  • they may require that a helmet be worn
  • front and rear lighting may be required after darkness.
