The Los Angeles Dodgers may be worlds better than the Los Angeles Angels, but you wouldn’t know it from Friday’s “Freeway Series” game in Chavez Ravine.

Taylor Ward’s single in the top of the 10th brought in Jo Adell with what proved to be the winning run as the Angels won, 3-2.

The Dodgers went ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run home run by Shohei Ohtani (his 22nd), but the Halos matched them in the sixth, setting the stage for four more tense innings.

With the score tied 2-2 after nine innings, the game went into extra innings. Under the new rules, the 10th inning, the visitor – the Angels – started with a runner on second. Adell was bunted over to third, bringing up Ward who singled to left, plating the runner.

The Dodgers also started their half of the inning with a man on second, and advanced him to third. But Angel closer Carlos Estevez struck out two Dodgers with Ohtani on deck and the underdogs had reason to howl.

With the win, the Dodgers are 47-31, still first in the NL West, while the Angels are 30-45, fourth in the AL West but with this kind of win, they might think they can do a lot better in the second half of the season.

The two teams play again on Saturday in L.A.
