Emergency abortions OK in Idaho

ABORTION laws in question (Shutterstock).

A split U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that certain kinds of abortions – when needed to stabilize the emergency medical condition of a patient – could be performed in Idaho.

The court was split 6-3 with Associated Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch dissenting.

This ruling – announced officially on Thursday – creates an exception to Idaho’s nearly complete ban on pregnancy terminations. The status of that law is considered likely to be a judicial topic going forward, say legal observers.

Angels blank Tigers 5-0 ; Dodgers travel

Are the Los Angeles Angels finally catching fire?

With Thursday’s 5-0 win over the Detroit Tigers at Anaheim Stadium, the Halos have now won five of six games while showcasing some impressive young talent.

Davis Daniel excelled in his first major league start, going eight innings and striking out eight batters while walking none. Luis Rengifo hit a two-run home run and Willie Calhoun hit a solo shot.

Rengifo and Nolan Schanuel each went 2-for-4. The Angels are now 34-46 and remain in fourth place in the American League West, but have moved within 2.5 games of third place.

The Angels and Tigers will meet again on Friday with Zach Plesac (1-1) making the start for the home team.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, who swept the Chicago White Sox in three in the Windy City, have a travel day today, and will start a three-game series in San Francisco to play their long-time rivals, the Giants, on Friday.

Weather: It peaks and then ….

Roller coaster weather continues – mildly – for our West Orange County area through the weekend. The forecast for Friday through Sunday is for partly cloudy skies, but temperatures will vary. Friday should have a daytime high of 78 with an overnight low of 63. But Saturday should warm to 84 (64) and then on Sunday rise again to 87 (66). However, the thermometer is expected to fall to 83 (65) on Monday with sunny skies.
