Palm Springs: it’s pretty, hot

THE EL MIRADOR TOWER is lovely in Palm Springs … but the heat is something else (Wikipedia).

This and that …

  • We wonder if Scott Stiles, former city manager for Garden Grove and now CM of the city of Palm Springs, misses his old job a bit considering that the Big Strawberry was 84 degrees on a recent day when Palm Springs was 124 degrees.
  • Westminster City Councilmember Amy Phan West recent filed a police report – since tossed – against fellow Councilmember Carlos Manzo for allegedly blocking her path in an “intimidating” fashion. Considering the strident approach of  Ms. West, one would think she was incapable of being intimidated.
  • The squeaky wheel gets the wheel, don’t it? After some complaints about homeless encampments on Chapman Avenue east of Gilbert Street in Garden Grove at a recent city council meeting, the area now looks mostly neat and tidy, graffiti painted out and unhoused folks moved out. Of course, this is a “point-in-time” and constant vigilance is required. If there’s one place in town you don’t want looking sketchy, it’s the edge of the city’s prime retail and entertainment area.
  • Of course, this is all relative to one’s particular location and I’ve yet to see the numbers yet, but it appears that, by and large, outrageous fireworks misbehavior receded in 2024. Maybe it’s the $1000 fines; maybe it’s the citations and arrests; maybe it’s peer pressure; maybe it’s the stepped-up enforcement. Perhaps people are wising up? Nahhh …
